Values & Beliefs
Our VISION & HEART
Our vision centers on three transformative values: worship, community, and mission. Our commitment is to make disciples who love God deeply (Deuteronomy 6:5; Matthew 22:37), love others genuinely (Matthew 22:39), and invest in making more disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). This simple yet profound mission shapes everything we do as a community of faith.

WHat We’re About
We're a church built on three foundational distinctives that define our character and approach to ministry:
Expository Preaching
We believe God's Word has the power to transform lives, so we're committed to teaching Scripture faithfully, allowing the Bible to speak for itself. Whether you're new to faith or have been walking with God for decades, you'll find teaching that challenges you to grow deeper in your knowledge and application of God's truth.
Generous Hospitality
Authentic community happens when people feel genuinely welcomed and valued. We strive to create an environment where everyone — from first-time visitors to longtime members—experiences the warmth of belonging and the joy of meaningful relationships.
Joyful Worship
Our worship flows from hearts grateful for God's goodness. We gather to celebrate, sing, pray, and encounter God together in ways that are both reverent and genuine, reflecting the joy that comes from knowing Christ.
A community for Everyone
One of the gifts we treasure most is our intergenerational family. God has blessed us with a vibrant mix of young families, established adults, and wise seniors who learn from and encourage one another.
Our commitment extends especially to the next generation. We invest deeply in kids and student ministries, creating environments where young people don't just attend church but truly encounter God, build lasting friendships, and develop their own authentic faith. We believe children and teenagers have an incredible capacity to know and love God, and we're dedicated to nurturing that relationship.
Our Authentic Approach
We prioritize substance over style, relationships over programming, and authenticity over image. Sometimes our presentation isn't flawless, and our communication might feel conversational — and we’re okay with that. We believe God uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways, and we strive to be relational and genuine.
Two Beautiful Campuses
Located on a hillside with spectacular views that remind us daily of God's creative majesty, our Morgan Hill location offers a peaceful setting for worship and community.
Located in the charming Willow Glen area near downtown San Jose, this campus brings our community into the heart of Silicon Valley while maintaining the warmth and accessibility that defines West Hills.
Come As You Are
Whether you're exploring faith for the first time, returning to church after time away, or looking for a place to grow deeper in your walk with God, you'll find a home at West Hills. Join us as we learn together what it means to love God, love others, and make disciples who will do the same.
Our Beliefs
-
As a Bible-centered church, we believe in one Supreme God who exists eternally as three persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. This Christian doctrine of the Trinity teaches that all three persons are co-equal and co-essential, yet united as one God. The Trinity forms the foundation of our faith and relationship with God.
God the Father is infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth. Through His eternal Word and Spirit, God created the heavens, earth, and universe in six days, displaying His eternal power and glory. His creation was perfectly good.
-
We believe Jesus Christ is the second person of the Trinity, the eternal Word of God who became human while remaining fully God. Our Christian faith centers on Christ's virgin birth, sinless life, miraculous works, substitutionary death on the cross for our sins, bodily resurrection from the dead, ascension to heaven, ongoing intercession for believers, and promised second coming in power and glory.
-
We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity who reveals Jesus Christ, convicts people of sin, brings spiritual rebirth (regeneration), and seals believers into Christ's body until redemption. The Spirit helps Christians understand Scripture, grows them in holiness (sanctification), guides them toward Christian maturity, provides life direction, offers comfort, empowers them for ministry and service, and confirms in believers' hearts that they are God's children.
-
We believe the Bible—all 66 books of the Old and New Testaments—is God's complete revelation to humanity, divinely inspired, completely accurate (inerrant) in original manuscripts, and serves as our final authority for Christian faith and living. Scripture alone is our infallible guide for biblical truth and Christian practice. Our church emphasizes expository biblical preaching that teaches God's Word faithfully.
-
We believe both men and women were created in God's image and likeness, possessing equal dignity and worth before God, though given distinct roles. Originally righteous, Adam and Eve were tempted by Satan and chose to rebel against God, resulting in the fall of all humanity into sin and spiritual death.
Because of this original sin, all people are born sinners and make sinful choices throughout life. While humans retain God's image, it's corrupted by sin and death. All people face God's judgment and cannot save themselves from sin—they need a Savior.
-
We believe salvation from sin, death, and God's judgment is a free gift received through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Salvation comes by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ's substitutionary death and resurrection alone—not through good works or church membership. This salvation restores our relationship with God.
All who are born again through faith in Christ will persevere in their Christian faith until death or Christ's return. This doctrine of eternal security assures believers of their salvation.
-
We believe the universal Church consists of all believers from every nation, tribe, and language group who have been saved through Jesus Christ. The local church serves as the earthly expression of Christ's body—a community of believers who:
Confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
Follow Scripture under qualified pastoral leadership
Gather regularly for biblical preaching and Christian worship
Practice the biblical sacraments of baptism and communion
Love God and others as Christ commanded
Maintain unity through the Holy Spirit
Practice church discipline for holiness
Serve their local community through Christian witness and good deeds for God's glory
-
We believe Jesus Christ instituted two sacraments for His church: believer's baptism and the Lord's Supper (communion). These Christian ordinances should be observed by churches until Christ's return as acts of obedience and remembrance.
-
We believe God ordained marriage at creation to be the lifelong union between one biological man and one biological woman until separated by death (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:18-25; Matthew 19:4-6). Christian marriage reflects Christ's relationship with His church (Ephesians 5:31-32).
Biblical marriage excludes polygamy, adultery, and same-sex unions as contrary to God's design. West Hills' pastors and elders perform only biblical marriages between one man and one woman, following Scripture's definition of marriage (Deuteronomy 17:17; Malachi 2:15; Ephesians 5:22-33; Hebrews 13:4).
-
We believe that after death, human bodies decay while souls continue consciously forever. Believers' souls enter Christ's presence in paradise, while unbelievers' souls go to Hades awaiting final judgment.
Christ's Second Coming: We believe Jesus Christ will return bodily in power and glory to judge His enemies and establish His eternal kingdom. At His return, both righteous and unrighteous dead will be physically resurrected.
Final Judgment: All people will stand before Christ for judgment based on their earthly deeds. Those righteous through faith in Jesus will receive eternal life with everlasting joy and rewards in God's presence.
Hell and Eternal Punishment: The unrighteous will face eternal punishment in hell's fire as judgment for their sins and rebellion against God, along with Satan and fallen angels.
philosophy of ministry
A common question people ask is what makes a particular church unique?
While our Statement of Faith outlines our Christian beliefs, our Philosophy of Ministry shows how West Hills Community Church in Morgan Hill and San Jose lives out faith in practical ways.
Our church philosophy is built on five biblical principles that flow into our vision, three core values, and 12 distinctives that guide our ministry approach, church leadership, and community priorities. This isn't just theory — it's the DNA of how we operate as a faith community.
Whether you're searching for churches in the Bay Area or want to understand our biblical ministry approach, this philosophy explains what makes West Hills Community Church unique in both doctrine and practice.
